DJ Fresh partners with Steve Tshwete Local Municipality in honour of Mandela Day

Johannesburg – To honour Mandela Day, popular disk jockey, DJ Fresh, has partnered up with the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality (STLM) and the local South African Police Services (SAPS) to distribute food parcels and blankets to the elderly citizens and needy families in the municipality.

Under the theme “one hand can feed another” the food will be distributed to 100 families.
DJ Fresh says they have asked the Middleburg SAPS to identify 100 families that they would be giving food to. The food parcels will be handed over by STLM executive mayor, Cllr Diphala Motsepe.

The municipality has contributed 100 blankets.

DJ Fresh says because of the Covid-19 regulations, they have partnered with the local taxi association to fetch the recipients and drop them back at their homes with their food parcels.

He says to empower the locals, they bought from and used the services of the local business.

“We will use the services of the local youth film the activities of the day. We also got local kids to volunteer in helping us to pack the food parcels. We are hoping we will be able to feed each household for more than a little while.”

DJ Fresh adds that they aim to make this a sustainable project.

“We do not want this to be a once-off thing. We want to make a sustainable impact in the area. We want to do activations every month following this. We want to do projects that are sustainable so that people can be able to help themselves.”

Motsepe says this initiative will bring much-needed relief to the needy in the municipality amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

“These are trying times in the lives of many South Africans. The economic fallout of the Covid-19 pandemic has resulted to immediate loss of income means and many families are less able to afford the basics. As the municipality, we want to continue to honour the legacy of Nelson Mandela and his values, through doing our bit to support the residents of our municipality.”

Motsepe adds that by partnering with influencers like DJ Fresh, the Mpumalanga-based municipality wanted to inspire positive change, and empower change-makers.
