One of Mzansi’s top DJs, Kagiso Mabelane, had a sour weekend after he spent a night in police cells and allegedly missed out on a gig.
This after the Soweto-born Mabelane, popularly known as DJ Milkshake, was arrested along Malibongwe Drive in Randburg for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol last Friday.
Police sources said the DJ had begged the officers not to lock him up as he was booked to perform at a gig.
According to a police statement seen by Sunday World, the former 5FM DJ was driving an Audi A3 when he was stopped and “getoets” (tested) for alcohol. According to the statement, the test proved that the DJ was over the legal limit.
“The complainant [police officer] alleged that on the 2019/09/20 at about 21:15 [9.25pm] she was on duty doing [a] roadblock at Malibongwe and Hill Street in Ferndale.
She stopped a blue Audi A3 with reg no … driven by Kagiso Mabelane. She asked the driver to switch off his vehicle so that she can breathalyse him. Test proves 33.7mg/l alcohol in his breath. She arrests him for drunken driving,” read the statement.
Milkshake denied that he was arrested. “No comment. I don’t know what you are talking about. I don’t even know where you got my number from,” he said.
Police spokesperson Makgowanyana Maja said: “I can confirm that the alleged person was arrested for drunk driving and released on bail the next day,” he said.
