DJ Thabza opens up about losing Amapiano star Papers 707

Johannesburg- Thapelo Ofentse Ranko AKA Thabza 707 has opened up about losing popular amapiano DJ and dancer Vusi “Papers 707″ Mabuza who was admitted for gout and died in hospital in July.

27-year-old Thabza 707, is a commercial DJ from Alexandra township, Far East Bank.


It is alleged that Thabza has since been an alcoholic.

Although he did not confirm the allegations, he affirmed that it has not been easy.

Thabza said he was very close to Papers; they were like brothers.

“We used to travel and perform together, more than anything, we became one,” he said.

The duo was great together. well-known in Alexandra for their collaborations.

“He was more of a dancer, and I was more on the decks, so basically we could deliver music and performance at the same time which is what our audience really loved about us. We also shared the same vision and same goals.”

Papers’ death took a toll on Thabza’s career and is currently working hard to recover and rebrand without his better half.

He is now working with Tsobas Music & Entertainment.

The DJ said Boeketlong Pub and Lodge used to book the duo quite often and they still continue to do so as he is now with Tsobas Music.

He is currently working on a single. He is yet to finalise the details.

“There will be more music in the future, and I am currently working on two singles, it’s going to be amazing sounds” he added.

The DJ is inspired by the likes of famous amapiano DJs; Kabza de small, Josiah De Disciples, and Loxion Deep and is proud of what he has achieved thus far.

“I have been through a lot, and I will give myself credit because I am still standing tall despite the challenges,” he said.

Not only was he affected by Papers’ death, but the COVID-19 was also major destruction.

He said losing physical contact with his audience was a big challenge, it became difficult for him to keep up with their interests and preferences.

Not being able to receive feedback, was another challenge.

Thabza is driven by his passion for music. He says he loved music from an early age.

“It is a gift from God,” he said.

He added that music is a universal language that everyone understands, and his music restores hope.

“Depression is real and if I can help through music then I would have played my part” he added.

Although he has already worked with a multitude of popular DJs, his dream is to be globally recognised.

“I want to preach love and peace through music,” he concluded.
