Mamelodi Sundowns has put their Ladies Team coach Jerry Tshabalala on special leave pending an investigation into allegations of impropriety.
The club said it has appointed a top law firm Bowmans to investigate these allegations against the long-serving coach.
It added that the firm will report the findings to the club board as soon as possible.
12 years at the club
Tshabalala has been at Sundowns for 12 years, after joining the team in 2012. Three years ago, he won the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League. He was also named coach of the year at the Hollywoodbets Super League awards in the same year.
In 2022, his side were runners-up in the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League. That was before winning his second CAF Women’s Champions League last year. With that. he became the first coach to win two CAF Women’s Champions League titles.
Club views allegations in a serious light
Said Sundowns in a statement: “The Board of Mamelodi Sundowns has been made aware of allegations of improper conduct that have been made by various women players against the coach of its Ladies Team, Jerry Tshabalala.
“Sundowns views these allegations in a very serious light. The club… has appointed a top law firm, Bowmans, to investigate these allegations. It is expected to report to the board as soon as possible. Sundowns has, in the interim, put coach Jerry Tshabalala on special leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
“This is not done to pre-empt the outcome of the investigation. But to ensure that the investigation can proceed expeditiously and to protect the rights of all parties. In the event that the investigation establishes facts that warrant action, the board will immediately take such steps as are appropriate.
“The club will in due course make announcements on the findings of the investigation and the action to be taken,” read the statement.
