Heavy rains on Tuesday afternoon wreaked havoc in several areas around eThekwini metro.
Inanda township and some areas in northern Durban were severely hit when torrential rains accompanied by strong winds battered people’s homes leaving a trail of mayhem, destruction, and misery. Several homes had their roofs blown away while walls also collapsed.
KZN EMS spokesperson Robert McKenzie said two people suffered minor injuries during the freak storm.
“There was massive damage to infrastructure and housing. The two people were in a container which overturned due to the wind. There was also massive damage to power lines,” McKenzie explained.
The tornado swept through while Durban and some parts of KZN has not yet recovered from the April 2022 floods which left scores of people dead while others were displaced. Inanda area was the epicentre of the deadly floods.
Besides eThekwini, the south coast of the province also experienced heavy down pours and inclement weather conditions which continued on Wednesday morning.
