Johannesburg – The Department of Basic Education has again urged teachers to get their vaccines.
This after it emerged that about 9000 teachers did not want to be vaccinated.
In a statement issued by the department today, they said that the rollout of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine would continue despite schools being closed.
They said the sector had secured 289 000 more doses to vaccinate their target of 582 564 education staff.
A total of 282 512 staff still require vaccinations.
“In addition, support staff from independent schools, food handlers, screeners, cleaners and ECD (Early Childhood Development) practitioners will be included in the rollout program,” reads the statement.
