Edward Zuma responds to Nomvula Mokonyane: ‘She’s an opportunist’

Former President Jacob Zuma’s son Edward Zuma has taken offence in ANC deputy secretary-general Nomvula Mokonyane’s characterisation of his father.
Mokonyane, during an interview with Sunday World Engage, said the ANC should have expelled Zuma the moment he established the Umkhonto weSizwe (MKP). She fingered the former head of state for entrenching tribalism and destabilisation in the ANC.

Ungrateful opportunist

Edward did not waste time to launch a responding offensive, telling Sunday World that Mokonyane was an ungrateful opportunist who does not appreciate what Zuma did for her.
According to Edward, who recently defected from the ANC to join his father at MKP, Mokonyane must never try to rebrand using the Zuma name.
He said he was convinced that Mokonyane is on a mission to run for a big position in the ANC 2027 national congress.
But launching her campaign using the Zuma name was not cool, and Edward won’t let it happen.
“Nomvula (Mokonyane) is the last person to be speaking like that about President Zuma, who stood with her when they were dealing with her in the ANC leadership in Gauteng.
“Today she has the audacity to say ‘we should have gotten rid of Zuma’,” said a livid Edward.
“She is the ultimate opportunist olandela ibhodwe eliconsayo. And she wants to rebrand and clean her image for the ANC 2027 elective conference.
“She says they should have expelled Zuma without due process, which demonstrates what they’re all about in dealing with people however they want, even in institutions of government and the state,” he went on.

‘ANC is the problem’

“That statement and language in fact shows the influence of the ANC in the illegal jailing and imprisonment of Zuma in 2021 without trial. It resonates that this was an influence from the very ANC that they said ‘to get rid of Zuma just jail him without following due process’.”
Edward said he takes particular exception to Mokonyane for accusing Zuma of entrenching tribalism in the ANC.
He went on to say that people must ask when Mokonyane made her discovery about Zuma being a tribalist and troublemaker when she has benefitted from his father’s kindness.
“Nomvula must not come and claim glory here and want to be a saint and good governance person. She messed up as MEC and Premier in Gauteng. And she messed up as Minister of Water and Sanitation and was covered and defended.

Political ladder

“Today she has the audacity to say Zuma should have been gotten rid of, who on earth does she think she is? She must motivate for the position she wants in the ANC. But she must not use the name of Jacob Zuma.
“I’m tired of people wanting to climb the political ladder using and bashing Jacob Zuma. That is rubbish and nonsense. And I’m not going to stand for it.”
