A manhunt is on after eight people were shot dead in Zama informal settlement in Umlazi, west of Durban, KZN.
Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said detectives have launched the manhunt for an unknown number of suspects.
He said the unknown assailants shot and killed eight in U Section, Umlazi, on Friday evening, 16 May 2025.
He said when police responded to the scene, eight people – six men and two women, whose ages range between 22 and 40 years old – lay in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot wounds.
It is reported that the victims were inside the dwelling when the suspects entered and opened fire, killing them at the scene. Investigations into the possible motive of the killings are underway, and police are on the trail of the suspects.
Responding emergency services, ALS Paramedics and multiple private security personnel found a horrific scene after 9pm.
They declared them deceased on the scene due to the multiple gunshot wounds.
At this stage, it is unknown what led to the shooting, and police are investigating.
