EXCLUSIVE | She was the apple of my eye – Shebeshxt’s mom

The mother of Shebeshxt, Mpho Chauke, has described her late granddaughter Onthatile as bubbly, energetic, and kind, saying she was the apple of her eye.

Chauke said this in an exclusive interview with Sunday World on Monday, stating that she has lost a gem.

Onthatile passed away when the controversial rapper’s Volkswagen Polo collided with a truck on the R37 Road next to Smelters Mine in Limpopo on Saturday night.

The nine-year-old girl was travelling with her father and an unidentified passenger to Lebowakgomo, where Shebeshxt was billed to perform at an ANC Siyanqoba Rally celebration concert.

Rapper is aware his daughter is dead

It has been reported that the rapper’s Volkswagen Polo overturned after colliding with the truck.

According to Chauke, Shebeshxt was travelling from Polokwane to Lebwakgomo to drop off Onthatile and the mother of his child at her home.

Upon dropping them off, the rapper would have gone to perform at an ANC rally.

A distraught Chauke said she believes that her son is aware that his daughter is dead.

Initially, she did not want to reveal the news to her son, but in a conversation they had, Shebeshxt only mentioned his girlfriend, said Chauke.

“When I heard him talking only about his girlfriend, I thought maybe he was not aware until yesterday, when he mentioned to his friends that he was aware that his daughter is no more,” said Chauke.

She revealed that Shebeshxt suffered a broken leg, an abdominal and head injuries.

Malema pays medical expenses

“The doctors are still trying to figure out the extent of the injuries but he went to the theatre this morning. So we should know after that.”

“Even the funeral arrangements will be announced when we know the outcome of the procedure he was doing this morning.”

Chauke thanked EFF leader Julius Malema for coming through and paying for his son’s medical expenses at a private hospital.

“I am so grateful for Malema and what he did for my son,” she said.

“Even the MEC here in Polokwane has been supporting us so much and is making things easier for us. People here have shown me how much they love my son, and I am grateful.”
