Family of slain woman patiently waiting for justice to prevail

The family of the late Mahlako Malebo Rabalao will wait for justice to take its course as the case against the man accused of her murder was delayed yet again on Friday.

The case against Sbonakaliso Mpisi – who was Rabalao’s boyfriend and is accused of her murder – was postponed to October 23 for further investigations.

A DNA report is still outstanding and the director of public prosecutions is yet to make a decision on where the matter will be heard.

“We will wait on justice to take its course. We are yet to receive the DNA results and have nothing more to say on this matter until then,” said a family representative outside court.

Mpisi, a legal practitioner, was remanded in custody after his fourth brief appearance at the Alexandra magistrate’s court on Friday.

The body of the 27-year-old Rabalao was found burnt beyond recognition in her Mercedes-Benz in Midrand, Gauteng. She was discovered hours after Mpisi reported her missing.

Mpisi was arrested later in connection with the incident and charged with murder. His first court appearance was on July 31.

The case was postponed to August 7 for bail application, but Mpisi’s lawyer withdrew from the case, citing conflict of interest. The case was then postponed to August 14.

Mpisi’s uncle, who refused to be named, told Sunday World that he is the brother of the accused father and has nothing to say at all.

The Rabalao family representative added that the deceased did not open up to them about her relationship with the accused.

“Everything seemed fine between the couple,” said a family member, “She kept on saying he [Mpisi] will come to the uncles.”

Rabalao and Mpisi, who have a one-year-old son, were living together in Midrand at the time of her death.
