A Free State teacher has been gruesomely murdered, allegedly by her boyfriend, who ran her over several times with his car and left her dead near the Mangaung Correctional Centre.
The provincial department of education confirmed that the body of the woman found on June 17 on Dewetsdorp Road in Mangaung, Bloemfontein, is that of 41-year-old Judith Mpho Moalasi.
Moalasi was a teacher at Tsoseletso Secondary School.
Younger brother called police after suspicion
A police search was launched just after midnight on June 17. This after Moalasi’s younger brother reported that he suspected that something was wrong with his sister.
According to Bloemfontein police, Moalasi’s 32-year-old bother received a missed call from her just after midnight on June 17. But when he called her back, her phone was off.
“He suspected that something was wrong and went to look for her at her place in Rocklands but could not find her. Her vehicle was also not in the yard.
“He reported her missing at Kagisanong police station, and a search party was launched,” said the police.
Reports of a female body discovered
Bloemspruit police, who were on patrol, received information about a female body. The body had multiple injuries and had been discovered near Dewetsdorp Road.
“It was discovered that the body is that of a female person. she had been reported missing earlier at Kagisanong police station,” said police spokesperson Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli.
“The search for a missing person was now changed to a manhunt for the murder suspects. Information led members to the house in Phase 2, where the deceased’s boyfriend is staying.
“Found parked in the boyfriend’s yard, was the deceased’s vehicle,” he said.
Suspect found with victim’s car at his place
The suspect was found hiding under the bed. He was arrested and charged with murder. The suspect appeared in court on Wednesday.
Department spokesperson Howard Ndaba confirmed the incident. He said acts of explicit and subliminal violence were committed on girls and female teachers daily.
“The Free State department of education wishes to renew calls to stop gender-based violence and femicide.
“Our heartfelt and deepest condolences to the family, fellow educators, and learners for their loss. The department has already commenced to provide counselling to Tsoseletso Secondary School teachers, staffers, and learners,” said Ndaba.
