A swoop by Waterberg police in Limpopo nabbed a man wanted for the murder of his girlfriend in Eastern Cape.
The 34-year-old man will appear in the Cradock magistrate’s court to face the charge of murder. The incident happened on October 2 at about 8am in the Cradock policing precinct in Eastern Cape.
Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said the suspect brutally assaulted his girlfriend after a heated argument in Cradock and fled the province to evade arrest.
The victim was admitted to a hospital but later succumbed to her severe injuries.
Police received information about the suspect hiding out at Sandsloot village in Ga-Mapela near Mokopane.
Mashaba said: “The police managed to locate the suspect who was found at his parental residence and nabbed him for the alleged murder of his girlfriend.”
Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe lauded the arrest.
Hadebe said: “I can assure you that this province is not a hideout for criminals. The police will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that acts of criminality are dealt with decisively.”
It’s not yet clear what was the murder suspect’s business in Eastern Cape. Cradock is about 1 100km away from Ga-Mapela, where the arrest was executed by a joint operation involving members of the Mokopane Crime Intelligence and Mahwelereng detectives.
Police said that investigations into this matter are underway.
