Gabuza tried to force himself on me – former girlfriend

South African footballer Thamsanqa Gabuza who pleaded poverty when the court set his bail at R3 000 has allegedly tried to  force himself on his ex-girlfriend before damaging his electronics valued at R50 000. 

On Wednesday, Gabuza appeared in the Alexandra magistrate’s court where a charge of malicious damage to property was heard.

This after “Ganda Ganda”, as Gabuza is affectionately known by fans, spent Tuesday night in custody after handing himself over tit he police. Before then, he had been on a brief run from the law after her ex-girlfriend reported him to police .

According to police records, the soccer star visited his ex at her house in Sandton, Johannesburg, on November 11. In her statement, the complainant says on the day, Gabuza asked her for sex, and she refused. He then  grabbed and pushed her towards the bedroom.

However, she managed to free herself out of the grab and ran back to the lounge. Gabuza allegedly followed her and snatched her personal electronics.

According to the statement, Gabuza grabbed an iPhone 3 cellphone valued at R20 000 from the complainant’s hand and smashed it against the wall. He also broke her HP laptop valued at R30 000 into pieces.

Both items are not insured, according to her.

Amid the rage of destruction, she managed to escape from the house to report the attack to the security guard.

During that moment, Gabuza also ran out of the house and drove off from the scene.

The TS Galaxy striker has had brush with the law previously, for nearly similar case of gender-based violence. In 2017, during his days with Orlando Pirates, Gabuza was arrested for allegedly beating his girlfriend.


Previous case and R40 000 ‘theft’

He spent a night in the Sandton police holding cells after the girlfriend identified as Boitshoko Tala called the police officers. She alleged that the footballer assaulted her and stole her belongings worth R40 000.

Gabuza is also famous for his “bopha” goal celebration, for which he brings his wrists together depicting being arrested.

Gabuza is ordered to attend all court hearings as part of the bail conditions set out in the Alexandra court for his latest case.

His next court date has been scheduled for December 11.
