Johannesburg – With the rise in unemployment, it is becoming more apparent that the youth of South Africa have to think of alternative careers and become self-starters.
Non-traditional methods of studying are becoming popular, enabling disadvantaged youth to get a qualification.
This week, entertainment channel Trace launched Trace Academia, an app to provide free vocational training to the youth in South Africa.
The app can be downloaded from Google Play or App Store.
The initiative is a partnership between Trace, Senghor University in Egypt and the French Development Agency.
The courses were created in collaboration with leading companies, institutions and experts to ensure that the skills provided are well matched to market needs.
The app will launch with several locally produced training courses including Get Started with Digital Marketing, How to Become a DJ, Spark your Interest in Electricity, Become a Successful Entrepreneur and Become a Real Handyman.
Trace co-founder and executive chairperson Olivier Laouchez said that due to the high youth unemployment rate in South Africa it was important for them to introduce the project as a getaway to their mission of entertaining and empowering young people to stand up and shine.
She said with the mammoth goal of training over 25-million youth by 2025, the projects aim to develop hundreds of courses to help empower young people to become employable or to become employers.
