Guards wounded in daring early-morning heist in Pretoria

The N4 highway in Pretoria was brought to a standstill on Wednesday morning following a cash-in-transit robbery.

The heist, which left four security guards wounded, unfolded just after 6am between Simon Vermooten Road and Rossouw Street.

“There were no fatalities reported but when paramedics responded to the scene near Simon Vermooten Road, they were met by absolute chaos. Multiple cars lay strewn across the road and the cash van had been blown up by the suspects,” said Emerg-G paramedics.

“Four security officers sustained moderate injuries and were treated and stabilised on the scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care.”

It is still not clear if the suspects had been apprehended, but the police are still on the scene assessing the situation.

This is a developing story
