A 33-year-old drug dealing suspect is set to appear in the Kimberley magistrate’s court after being caught in a major police bust on Wednesday.
The Serious Organised Crime Investigation, better known as the Hawks, spearheaded the bust with other police units.
Warrant Officer Nomthandazo Mnisi said the bust at Diamond Park, Greenpoint, was planned after police received useful information.
Nomthandazo said: “A search warrant was obtained and the team executed it at the said address. During the search, mandrax tablets, crystal methamphetamine (tik) and an undisclosed amount of money were confiscated.”
This drug bust follows a trail of other separate incidents where officials caught dealers red handed.
A group of five suspects appeared at the Kempton Park magistrate’s court on November 17. The group were caught in a R500 million drug bust from which some narcotics were recovered in Australia last month.
The five have been charged with drug trafficking, contravention of the Civil Aviation Act and the Customs and Excise Act.
Hawks’ spokesperson Katlego Mogale says their case has been postponed to Thursday when they are expected to apply for bail.
The group was caught by the Hawks at OR Tambo International Airport in the morning on November 15. They are charged with drug trafficking, contravention of the Civil Aviation Act and contravention of the Customs and Excise Act.
Mogale said: “The quintet was arrested on Wednesday November 15 in a joint operation spearheaded by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, in concert with the Australian Federal Police, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police, Airports Company of South Africa, Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa, Menzies Aviation and Swissport.
