The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) has launched a manhunt for Jojo Edumundo David Mondlala in connection with the murder of a Hawks police officer killed in 2022.
Gauteng Hawks spokesperson Warrant Officer Thatohatsi Mavimbela said on October 14 2022, Warrant Officer Moalusi, attached to the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime, was murdered in Duduza, Nigel.
Killed, robbed at car wash
“Warrant Officer Moalusi had taken a state car to the car wash. When he returned later that evening to pick up the vehicle from the car wash, the officer was accosted by two unknown suspects who fatally shot at the officer. [He was] certified dead at the scene,” said Mavimbela.
Mavimbela said the suspects then robbed the deceased of his service pistol. They also took the state vehicle (a Toyota Hilux) and two cell phones. The state vehicle was later found abandoned in Tsakane Ext 6, said Mavimbela.
“It is believed that Jojo Edumundo David Mondlana might be of assistance with information relating to this case.
“The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in Gauteng is appealing to members of the public who may have information on the whereabouts of Mondlana to contact the investigating officer Warrant Officer Frederick Jacob Reubenheimer on 082 778 9390 or anonymously call Crime Stop on 0860 10111,” said Mavimbela.

Meanwhile, in May this year, Police Minister Senzo Mchunu said 22 police officers were killed between January and March 2025.
January – March: 22 cops killed
Out of this number, Mchunu said six were killed while on duty, and 16 were killed while off duty.
“Regrettably, we must report the loss of 22 police officers — six while on duty, and 16 while off duty. Ten of those in Gauteng alone. This is not just a loss to the SAPS but to the entire nation. Let me be clear: an attack on a police officer is an attack on the state. And those responsible will face the full might of the law,” said Mchunu.
Mchunu said this while presenting the crime statistics for the fourth quarter of the 2024-2025 financial year. The fourth quarter covers the period of January 1 to March 31 2025.
