Kaizer Chiefs are still very much in the mix for a spot in the CAF Confederations Cup group stages, after avoiding defeat away from home in the first leg of their second preliminary round.
Amakhosi played to a goalless draw against AS Simba of the Democratic Republic of Congo at the TP Mazembe Stadium on Saturday.
The Glamour Boys will now host the Congolese outfit for the return leg at the Dobsonville Stadium next Saturday.
In a game that not much can be said or spoken about, due to it not being televised on any platform, Amakhosi could not find the much-needed away goal advantage, with Khanyisa Mayo getting the closest to breaking the deadlock when he struck the woodwork in the first half.
The second half was evenly poised, as neither side could find the back of the net to end the game goalless at full-time.
Two heads still not better
Amakhosi co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef made some changes to the team that faced Stellenbosch FC in the Carling Knockout, with goalkeeper Brandon Petersen returning between the sticks.
Siphesihle Ndlovu started in the middle of the park and paired up with Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, while in-form Sibongiseni ‘Ox’ Mthethwa patrolled in front of the back four marshalled by Zitha Kwinika and Inacio Miguel.
Pule Mmodi and Glody Lilepo occupied the wings, with the latter getting an opportunity to play for the first time on home soil since joining Amakhosi at the start of the season.
Mayo led the strike force in what was his first appearance for Chiefs in the Confederations Cup, after being registered late alongside Etiosa Ighodaro and Lebohang Maboe, who are yet to make their debuts for the club since joining as free agents recently.
The duo will hope to get their first taste as Chiefs players in the second leg next Saturday in Dobsonville, Soweto.
