Kelly Khumalo was called twice by Meyiwa’s ‘murderer’

Senzo Meyiwa murder accused Fisokhuhle Ntuli had called singer Kelly Khumalo twice leading up to Meyiwa’s death.

This is according to state witness Colonel Lambertus Steyn, who testified in court on Thursday.

Steyn, a cellphone data analyst for the SA Police Services, said Kelly Khumalo, who was Meyiwa’s girlfriend at the time, was called first on August 2 2014, with the call lasting for 110 seconds.

The second call was made on October 15 2014 and lasted for 98 seconds. This was 11 days before Meyiwa was gunned down in Khumalo’s home in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg.

Steyn told the high court that he was tasked to profile all the suspects and targets identified by the investigating team.

He testified that he identified numbers which belonged to the singer, which he can prove was hers through links with friends and family, as well as through a central base data reference, police crime administration system, the eNaTIS system and the Truecaller App.

Ntuli, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube and Mthokoziseni Maphisa are on trial for premeditated murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of firearms without a licence, and possession of ammunition.

They have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Kelly Khumalo is not on the list of witness, however, an application will be brought to have the songbird testify in court.

Steyn continues his testimony on Friday.
