Killer of Ramaphosa protection unit boss’ son due in court

A man suspected of killing President Cyril Ramaphosa protection unit head Wally Rhoode’s son is expected to appear in the Bellville magistrate’s court on Monday.

Warren Rhoode was last seen on April 23 in Eindhoven, Delft in Cape Town. The 41-year-old Mozambican suspect was arrested in Cape Town last week.

“The suspect, a Mozambican national, was taken in for questioning by serious and violent crimes detectives on Thursday following an extensive investigation into the disappearance and subsequent discovery of 30-year-old Rhoode’s body in Thubelisha, Delft,” said police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa.

Potelwa added that a missing person’s report indicated that Rhoode was last seen in the area.

“In the past week, police offered a reward of R50 000 for any information that could lead to the arrest, prosecution and conviction of the perpetrator/s of the murder of the deceased person,” she added.

According to Potelwa, the motive for the murder is believed to be robbery, with detectives still pursuing other leads.
