A Limpopo student’s life has changed forever after he walked away with a staggering R66-million Powerball jackpot on Friday.
Powerball operator iThuba said the millionaire collected his winnings on Monday.
“It is with great excitement that iThuba announces that the winner of the staggering R66-million Powerball jackpot, draw number 1419, drawn on Friday June 30 2023 has come forward to claim their life-changing prize,” said the Lotto operator.
It did not reveal the identity of the lucky man, only stating that he is a student from Limpopo.
“The fortunate individual, a young gentleman originally from Limpopo, followed his dreams to pursue a higher university education.
“Now, with his latest dream coming true of winning the Powerball, he will soon be embarking on local holidays and potentially their first overseas travel adventure.”
The man bet his ticket on the Capitec banking app, selected a quick pick option and matched all winning numbers during the draw. He is the first biggest amount winner after someone else won R22-million in February.
iThuba CEO Charmaine Mabuza said: “The R66-million jackpot winner is the first big Powerball winner on the Capitec banking platform this year, followed by a Lotto jackpot winner who won R22 260 104.70 on February 11 2023.
“The fortunate winner will now be faced with endless possibilities and a new-found financial freedom that comes with such a significant windfall.”
The operator added that winnings are tax-free.
“The Powerball game has been captivating the nation for years, offering thrilling opportunities to turn dreams into reality with its substantial jackpots.
“In this instance, a single ticket matched all the winning numbers, resulting in an extraordinary win for the fortunate winner.”
The operator added that in addition to the incredible prize money, all winners of R50 000 or more receive free financial and trauma counselling services, ensuring they receive support during this life-altering transition.
