Johannesburg – We’re all familiar with the stereotype of the struggling musician who waits tables between dashing to a gig while waiting for a big break.
While that may be a rite of passage for many would-be stars, Nkululeko Nciza aka Ciza, walked into his music career with a major leg up.
Thanks to the example set by his parents, Mafikizolo’s Nhlanhla Nciza and his businessman father TK Nciza, who are a force in the music industry.
The 20-year-old maintains it took a lot of hard work and diligence on his part to get out of his parents’ shadow.
“People were surprised when my career took off. I still get people who are surprised to find out that my parents are Nhlanhla and TK. I dreamed that would happen, and it has. I’m no longer introduced to people as Nhlanhla and TK’s son. I am my own person,” he said.
Ciza who admits was beyond spoilt with love by his parents adds that his parents are his creative go-to in his career.
“My parents are my parents first and foremost. They really instilled in me and my siblings , family first, care for other people and go after your dreams. They are really supportive and have given me a lot and I feel really grateful to have their support,” he reveals.
He adds that being born to celebrity parents was challenging but he is grateful he made it through.
“Being born to celebrated parents put a lot of pressure on you. You constantly live under their shadow he shares.
He adds that the biggest lesson he learned from his parents is that hard work pays off.
“My parents taught me that working hard has good results and that the application of oneself will get you further than you could ever imagine. They also taught me that it’s all up to me and in my hands.”
Ciza’s has been making waves in Africa since he burst into the music scene with his debut hit single Come Alive, followed by Adje, which took Africa by storm, snatching 1 million views on YouTube, hitting the Top 5 on national radio charts in South Africa and Nigeria.
