Man jailed for bumping wife before shooting her repeatedly

A man who allegedly shot and injured a woman believed to be his wife has been arrested and is expected to face the wrath of the law.

The incident took place in Berea West, KwaZulu-Natal on Monday afternoon.

According to police, the man first attempted to run her over with a light motor vehicle, crashing into a precast concrete fence. He then alighted from his vehicle, drew a pistol and fired several shots at her before fleeing the scene.

Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the man will appear in court soon.

“Reports indicate that the woman was walking on Lawrence Drive in Berea West when the suspect attempted to run her over with his vehicle,” said Netshiunda.

“The suspect’s vehicle was intercepted in Pietermaritzburg and he was duly arrested. The woman survived the shooting and was rushed to hospital for immediate medical attention.”
