A Limpopo businessman and Benny Mayengani’s friend and business partner, Howard Mashaba, is facing a charge of intimidation after he allegedly threatened to kill another business owner allegedly for demanding that he be paid money owed to him.
Khetani Mashele opened a case at Giyani Police station in July last year claiming that Mashaba, owner of Xilumani Coaches and Hotel, was refusing to pay him an amount of R13 500 for bricks he supplied to his Xilumani hotel, when it was being built.
Businessman and Mbatini Sand and Bricks owner Mashaba said Mashaba was initially paying monies in advance when they started the construction of the hotel in 2018, but he said things changed after he ordered him to continue delivering Bricks in his absence and without payment.
Police statements, which Sunday World had seen state that Mashaba refused to pay a balance of R13 500, and he kept sending Mashele from pillar to post.
Mashele said he was later told by Mashaba that he was going to bring Zulu people to come destroy him and his family if he keeps bothering him about the money.
“I told him that what I need is my money, but he insisted that he was going to kill me by means of fire arm,” reads Mashele statement.
He said he was afraid of Mashaba after he threatened his life.
Mashele further said that the same threats were repeated by Mashaba when he asked him to collect the money he was owed.
“He said I will kill you, and he never gave me anything despite promising me,” said Mashele.
Mashaba said he could not comment about the matter as it was before the police and the prosecutor was deciding on the matter.
Meanwhile, Mashaba was also accused by another businesswoman of running away with her R41 000, which she said she paid to him to hire two buses to transport learners from Pretoria to Burgersfort to attend a funeral.
The lady, Rudzani Nakana, said Mashaba’s buses never pitched and she was forced to hire local taxis to transport the learners.
