Matorokisi producer DJ C all Me faces a lawsuit for allegedly stealing instrumentals for the song from upcoming artist Jackie Mahlo.
DJ Call Me, real name Aubrey Lebese, allegedly enslaved Mahlo into producing two hit songs – Tshelede Ya Hana and Matorokisi – and allegedly promised to pay him as soon as the songs started hitting radio waves and trending around the country.
He said though they had not agreed on the amount, he still wanted fair compensation and credit for his work .
“The guy only gave me R50 since we started working together on these sounds,” charged Mahlo.
“The introduction is also mine and he even used my voice, but he is not giving me anything for my hard work. That is why I have lodged a complaint to their manager and [I am] pursuing the legal route.
“They even shot the music video without my knowledge. I was shocked to see it on YouTube towards the end of November.”
He continued: “I had expected at least R15 000 because I am really a struggling artist, but them using my sound showed me just what I am capable of. I want my money and credit for the song. I worked hard.”
DJ Call Me confirmed that they were in studio together to produce Tshelede Ya Hana and Matorokisi but declined to comment on whether payment had been discussed, and the amount.
Limpopo Artists Movement chairman Mphoza Mashabela said they have arranged a meeting between the two parties to ensure a solution is found.
“We engaged with Samro [Southern African Music Rights Organisation] to help us in this matter, but I can’t explain further until we meet,” he said.
