McCain recalls food items after detecting traces of glass

McCain Food South Africa has advised consumers to return frozen green beans and Spar-branded French stir-fry products, noting that they contain traces of glass.

In a statement on Tuesday, the company said the small glass fragments originated from a light fitting that affected a limited batch of products.

The global family-owned business, which has been supplying food for more than 60 years in over 160 countries, advised the consumers who had already purchased any of the items in question to return them to retail stores and ask to be paid back.

The company said: “At McCain Foods South Africa, we adhere to the highest local and international health and safety standards, and we are committed to producing and bringing only the best quality food to the tables of all South Africans.

“As always, consumer safety is our top priority, and as such, McCain South Africa is currently conducting a voluntary public product recall nationwide. This follows reports that fragments of foreign material had been detected in specific bags of frozen sliced green beans and stir fry.”
