Saddened Gauteng MEC for education Matome Chiloane has sent his condolences to the family and friends of Siza Mbhalati following his killing on Thursday.
Mbhalati was fatally shot at his home in Protea Glen, Soweto.
According to the department, the 52-year old deputy chief education specialist in Johannesburg south district was followed home from work by unknown assailants who shot him eight times.
“Mbhalati worked for the labour relations unit in Johannesburg south district and was responsible for labour-related disputes at schools in the district,” said the department.
Chiloane said the department is saddened by the killing of one of dedicated public servants who “served the department with honour and dignity”.
“On behalf of the department, we wish to extend our sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones,” said Chiloane.
“In the same breath, we condemn this level of lawlessness and call for the speedy apprehension of these brazen criminals.”
