Medics drive old bakkie from London to Cape Town in 3 months

Three young medical doctors have concluded their adventure trip driving an old bakkie from London to Cape Town. After traveling in their cherished old Toyota bakkie, named Edna, for three months, the three medics have arrived in Cape Town, South Africa.

As they set out on their voyage by car across West Africa from London to Cape Town, Karen, James, and Spence began posting videos of their adventures on social media, garnering the support of thousands of avid travellers.

Streamed their trip on social media

The trio announced on their social media platform on Tuesday that they had safely arrived in the nation. Despite facing several obstacles along the route and nearly giving up when their vehicle broke down numerous times.

“Edna has made it to Cape Town. Thank you so much for your love and support throughout our journey,” they posted. The medical doctors said they look forward to experiencing and exploring the city. They plan to do this while updating their followers.

“We will do regular stories and we look forward to our time exploring South Africa. And we cannot wait for you to see what we get up to.”

Ford has now provided doctors with a new bakkie to drive around. This after social media went wild with complaints over their unroadworthy vehicle. This prompted the city of Cape Town to take action.

Ford donated a truck for their stay in the country

They will be driving the car for the duration of their stay in South Africa.

“Excited to announce that we are partnering with Ford during our time in South Africa. Edna has got us all the way from London to Cape Town. She did an amazing job getting us here, but she’s tired now and needs a rest.”

Meanwhile, the South African Medical Association (SAMA) has saluted the doctors on their bravery.

SAMA lauds colleagues for the unusually ‘lighthearted’ story

“More often than not, healthcare news can be very serious. However, ever so often a ‘feel good’ story makes the news. And here is one such story. For more than 100 days, three doctors trekked across Africa from London, in their beloved ‘Edna’,” said the association.

“SAMA salutes these doctors and would like to congratulate them for their brave sojourn from London to Cape Town.”
