Mist blamed for deadly N12 highway multiple vehicle collision

Four people were killed on the N12 highway between Witbank and Ogies in Emalahleni following a head-rear multiple vehicle collision on Thursday.

All the deceased were the occupants in one of the sedans involved in the accident. The emergency personnel and law-enforcement officers are combing through the scene, and the road has been closed to traffic.

Mpumalanga MEC for community safety, security and liaison, Vusi Shongwe, said the multiple vehicle collisions are largely caused by reduced visibility due to early-morning mist.

“The multiple collisions include articulated trucks, sedans, and light delivery vehicles,” said Shongwe.

“Motorists are once again encouraged to reduce speed, increase following distance, and switch their headlights on when driving in misty conditions.”
