Bongi Mhluzi, the mother of the late Orlando West High School pupil Jabulile Mhluzi, is hopeful that she will find closure as to why her daughter was killed.
This after Christina Kunene, accused of the murder, was apprehended by the police earlier this week.
Jabulile Mhluzi was fatally stabbed allegedly by Kunene in Fleurhof, Johannesburg after a fight broke out between friends in July.
According to reports, Mhluzi and her friend who survived, were involved in a fight with Kunene after school and they both were stabbed. Mhluzi succumbed to her injuries.
The mother from Soweto said Kunene’s arrest brought hope to her that perhaps she will finally hear what happened and led to her killing her daughter. She believes justice will prevail.
She said she was starting to lose hope after they were told the court described the evidence before it as insufficient.
“Seeing her on the dock brought so much to me and my children that maybe we will get justice for my child. I have not been able because all the answers I have, have not been answered,” she said.
According to Mhluzi her daughter, who was going to turn 18-years on August 21, did well in her June examinations.
But she said Bongi’s birthday was a heavy and dark day for them as a family. She relayed how her daughter’s friends came with cake to celebrate her memory.
“I went to her school to fetch her June results and she had passed. My daughter made me proud even beyond the grave. Her teachers said she was determined and was doing exceptionally well in her studies, it is so sad that her life ended like this.
“My prayer is that the case does not disappear and we get the answers that we are all longing for,” said Bongi.
The accused is expected to appear before the Roodepoort magistrate’s court on September 11 for a bail application.
