Member of Parliament and leader of the National Coloured Congress, Fadiel Adams, has been arrested in connection with alleged interference in the investigation into the murder of former ANC Youth League leader Sindiso Magaqa.
Adams’s arrest comes after the police released a media statement on Tuesday, stating that they have issued an arrest warrant against him.
Adams was taken into custody on Tuesday after police called on him to present himself.
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe told Sunday World Adams was arrested after the police had to locate him.
Police battled to locate Adams
Authorities confirmed that they were in possession of a J50 warrant of arrest.
Mathe said Adams is facing charges of fraud as well as defeating and obstructing the course of justice.
“Through investigations, the task team discovered that Mr Adams interfered with the now convicted and sentenced hitman at a very sensitive and advanced stage of the police’s investigation,” she added.
Mathe said police had made several attempts to locate Adams prior to his arrest.
“Police have gone through extensive efforts to locate Mr Adams, including visiting multiple addresses associated with him,” she said.
Magaqa was shot and killed in his hometown of Umzimkhulu in July 2017.
In June 2025, Sibusiso Ncengwa, 37, was sentenced to an effective 25 years’ imprisonment by the Pietermaritzburg High Court after being convicted of Magaqa’s murder and related offences.
Ncengwa made Section 220 admissions, confirming that he shot Magaqa on July 13, 2017. According to the National Prosecuting Authority, he also admitted to the attempted murders of Jabulile Msiya, Nonsikelelo Mafa and Nceba Mazongolo, as well as malicious damage to property involving vehicles belonging to Magaqa and others.
He further admitted to firearm-related offences and the unlawful possession of ammunition.
He also detailed the events leading up to Magaqa’s death and his interactions with co-accused Sbonelo Myeza, Mlungisi Ncalane and Mbulelo Mpofana and disclosed the names of alleged masterminds behind the killing.
The arrest of Adams is the latest development in the ongoing investigation into Magaqa’s murder.
