Western Cape police are searching for suspects who are believed to be responsible for the killing of three men at Mfuleni on Tuesday evening.
Seven men were inside a shack in Intambane Street, Phola Park informal settlement when the gunmen entered just before midnight and sprayed them with bullets, according to provincial serious violent crime detectives.
Three men died on the scene and another person was rushed to the hospital, said police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa.
“As a consequence, three victims died on the scene and a fourth one sustained an injury. He was taken to a medical facility for treatment. Three other men who were in the shack escaped without injuries,” said Potelwa.
Police following several leads
Potelwa said the police are pursuing several leads as part of an investigation into the murder and an attempted murder.
“The motive for the shooting incident is a subject of a police investigation, with detectives hard at work in search of the perpetrators. No arrests have been effected yet,” according to Potelwa.
The police further said they are committed to rid the province of unlicensed and prohibited firearms and ammunition.
This after they managed to arrest three suspects in isolated incidents on Tuesday.
“A complaint of a suspicious vehicle in Francis Street came forward and as the members of the police approached the vehicle, four unknown suspects fled the scene on foot and firing gunshots in the direction of the police members.
“The members gave chase and arrested two males whom they found in possession of two 9mm pistols.
“The men, aged 32 and 39, were detained on a charge of possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition.
“The suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Khayelitsha and Athlone magistrate’s courts once they have been charged.”
