The provincial task team (PTT) of the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has announced that task teams have been established in all 11 regions in the province, and they have been tasked with leading the renewal projects.
Giving snippets of the task teams without giving away all the information, the convener of the task team, Jeff Radebe, announced that they have included seasoned leaders to help in the rebuilding project.
Seasoned, disciplined leaders
Among those he counted were Don Gumede, who will be part of the eThekwini RTT, and former finance MEC and former eThekwini deputy mayor, Belinda Scott. The eThekwini and Moses Mabhida regions were heavily decimated during last year’s elections after the emergence of the Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) Party led by former president Jacob Zuma.
“In line with our broader renewal programme, the ANC provincial working committee has also finalised the establishment of ANC regional task teams in all the 11 regions of KwaZulu-Natal. These task teams consist of capable, disciplined and committed individuals. They have all demonstrated unwavering loyalty to the movement and a capacity for organisational leadership.
“They are instructed to restore stability, unity and a renewed sense of purpose within all our structures in the ANC and the broader alliance. We are very proud to announce the inclusion of some of the leading leaders of the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal. They include Don Gumede from eThekwini region, who is a seasoned and respected organiser with a wealth of political experience. Comrade Belinda Scott, former MEC for finance and deputy mayor of eThekwini. She is known for her professionalism, leadership and clean governance,” Radebe announced.
Moses Mabhida region
In the troubled Moses Mabhida region, Radebe said they have roped in seasoned leaders. These include former unionists and MP Zeth Luzipho to lead there.
“‘Comrade Zeth Luzipho from the Moses Mabhida region. He is a very principled trade unionist rooted in the struggles of workers and community development. Comrade Nathi Mdladla, a longstanding and respected ANC activist and leader. He has a very distinguished history in the liberation and within Umkhonto Wesizwe liberation war veterans. This team will spearhead our efforts to rebuild the ANC’s organisational machinery at all regional level. They will restore member confidence and reignite action that is rooted in community service and revolutionary discipline,” he added.
Radebe was addressing the media in Durban on Tuesday on a range of organisational matters.
He also spoke on the issue of Ithala bank, which is facing a liquidation onslaught by the Prudential Authority. Radebe was adamant that it would not be closed down as feared. He said the liquidation has been averted.
