Johannesburg- With the announcement that we can officially return back to the office from this week, people might start to feel anxious about returning to the workplace.
It is bound that anyone can experience workplace anxiety, especially after working from home ever since the pandemic hit the world.
Wellness experts at Eden’s Gate have listed their top tips for returning back to normality.
Here are several ways in which one can deal will anxiety in a workplace,
Speak to others:
With the news of returning to offices, it is important to understand that you’re not going through this change by yourself and the questions you have are shared with others. Speak to your co-workers, employers as well as friends and family. Know what you need so they can help and discuss the realities of the situation, what is known, what is not, and the path forward.
Be prepared:
Before you head back to the office, simplify your daily routine and streamline your routine. Ensure you have everything set and prepared before you will be back in the office. It is also important to schedule joyful activities that boost your mental and physical health.
Reach out for help:
The new rules can seem overwhelming, and it can feel like you can’t cope. If you’re struggling, do not spend too much time alone. It’s at times like these that you need to be able to talk to someone. Reach out for help from family, trusted friends, or professionals such as your GP, a doctor or nurse, a social worker or a community support group.
Breathing techniques:
When the anxiety of returning to a busy workplace, it is important to not let the anxiety take over and to breathe. Breathing techniques can help relax your body and reduce stress and anxiety. The 4-7-8 breathing technique involves breathing in through your nose for four seconds, holding your breath for seven seconds and exhaling for eight seconds. This will calm your body and control your breathing.
Find ways to stay safe:
If you are concerned about Covid-19 begin by reading over your workplace’s Covid-19 safety policy, so you know what is expected of you and others. Knowing the policy can help you advocate for your own safety and comfort. If you feel more comfortable, wear a mask in your workplace and ensure you are social distancing yourself from others.
