When a gang of car thieves thought they’d pull off a quick job near Tek Base in Thaba Tshwane, they clearly had not checked the address or the dress code. Â
Because what awaited them wasn’t a sleepy security guard but a South African National Defence Force soldier… in pyjamas, holding a rifle, daring them to try him or see their own donkey.Â
And see it they did. Â
The suspects were stripped of their plans and handed over to the police like cold pap. Â
The SANDF’s swift, no-nonsense action reminds us why they deserve more than parade duty. Â
Perhaps it’s time every municipality gets a resident rifleman in pyjamas. Â
