Full credit must go to auditor-general Tsakani Maluleke for telling it like it is, and not mincing her words when she reprimanded underperforming municipalities for lack of accountability at local government level.
In a first, Maluleke’s office referred six municipalities to the Financial Intelligence Centre to investigate their unexplained accounting practices when handling public finances.
Some municipalities even failed to provide their auditors with their books – meaning their books are in a shambles.
Take them on, Tsakani.
