A tragic incident has shocked the community of Pimville in Soweto.
This was after a University of Johannesburg student allegedly stabbed a Musi High School pupil to death.
Then, outraged fellow pupils attacked a local student residence, breaking down structures until they were chased away by the police.
Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson, Steve Mabona, confirmed to Sunday World that this incident took place on Tuesday but outside the school premises.
He said the learner was allegedly attacked by the student, who was arrested shortly after the incident.
“The Department of Education is aware and deeply concerned about the unfortunate incident whereby a Grade 11 boy learner at Musi High School was allegedly stabbed to death by a student from the University of Johannesburg,” said Mabona.
He said the police are still investigating the incident.
He said the department has sent its Psycho-Social Support team to the school to provide trauma support and counselling to affected pupils and staff.
He also expressed sympathy for the learner’s loved ones.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the learner’s family and the school community at large, during this difficult period,” said Mabona.
