Two men aged between 27 and 29 are in jail following the murder of a councillor and rape of his 28-year-old girlfriend in Durshwa, Eastern Cape on Sunday.
A case of murder and rape is being investigated and the pair is expected to appear in court soon.
According to Colonel Priscilla Naidu, it is alleged that the ward councillor, Mzikayise Sakhi, 45, and his girlfriend were on their way home from a local tavern in Kwarini location in Ngxakaxa when they were accosted by the suspects.
“Sakhi was strangled to death while the woman was taken to a vandalised house near the stadium and allegedly raped,” said Naidu.
