‘Phone numbers linked to Meyiwa murder accused belong to family’

None of the numbers associated with accused number five Fisokuhle Ntuli in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial belong to him, but rather to his family members.

This was disclosed by his lawyer, advocate Zandile Mshololo, while cross-examining police Colonel Gideon Gouws, a cell phone data analyst, on Thursday at the Pretoria High Court.

Mshololo first stated that Gouws was using the results of an inquiry he never conducted as testimony because they were collected by an investigation team.

According to the defence, her client denies ever using any of the numbers associated with him by Gouws and the investigating team.

Cellphone interaction time frame questioned

“My client informed me that the number belonged to his cousin Lungisani Ndwandwe. The other number belonged to his mother, Bathethelele Zungu, who is late,” said Mshololo.

She further threw a question at Gouws: “Fisokuhle Ntuli contacted accused three Mthobisi Mncube 26 times. What was the time frame there?

“October 24, 2014 to January 17, 2015,” Gouws responded.

“Accused number five denies that the number belongs to him and he never communicated with accused number three during that period. He further denies that accused number three contacted him. He does not know this number.”

“Noted my lord, I understand. But that’s the information given by the investigators,” said Gouws.

Mshololo said her client denies any knowledge of using the cellphone number that ends with 173.

“According to the consumer tracing report, he gave the number in 2015. This is a report that is given as a person applies for credit. It is linked to their identity number, name and surname. In 2012, this number was also given.”

Adjourned for defence to prepare more cross-examination

Mshololo requested to the court that she be given more time to prepare her other questions. This as she continues with the cross-examination. The judge adjourned for Friday for defence to continue.

In October 2014, Meyiwa was fatally shot at his musician girlfriend Kelly Khumalo’s home in Vosloorus. This was in an alleged robbery gone wrong.

Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Ntanzi, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, Mthobisi Mncube, and Ntuli, are on trial for the murder. They have all pleaded not guilty.
