Police investigate after finding learner’s body at a mortuary

A fight between two pupils has landed one of them in a body bag at the mortuary in Sandsloot village near Mahwelereng in Limpopo.

According to reports, a fight broke out inside school premises on Friday. After the dust had settled, one of the boys was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Twenty-year-old Nthutse Ngoepe was discharged on Sunday but suffered complications from his injuries when he got home. He died later.

However, it is not known how Ngoepe’s body landed at the mortuary.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the matter was brought before the police who are investigating.

“The family discovered from the school that there was a fight that resulted in the boy being admitted to the hospital,” said Malesela.

“Both the school and family reported the incident to the police and an inquest docket has been opened.”

Ledwaba said an investigation will reveal the cause of the boy’s death and how Ngoepe landed at the mortuary.

Police commissioner in Limpopo Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe has condemned the incident and called on the community to help bring the suspect to book.
