Police probe murder of man caught up in love triangle

Police officers in Giyani in Limpopo have launched a manhunt for a suspect responsible for the murder of a 33-year-old man at Xitlakati village in Mopani district.

It is alleged that a woman was at her homestead with her boyfriend on Sunday evening when they were approached by a man believed to be having an affair with her.

The man is said to have requested to speak with the woman but she refused, asking him to come back the next day.

Limpopo police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba said it is alleged that the suspect attacked the woman’s boyfriend, who ran away and vanished under the cover of darkness.

“It appears that the suspect caught up with the victim [now deceased] and stabbed him in the chest with a sharp object,” said Ledwaba.

“According to reports, the deceased managed to inform a witness before he could die that he was stabbed by the known suspect.”

Police received a complaint of murder the next day and on arrival at the scene, they found the lifeless body of a man laying in a pool of blood with a stab wound.

The deceased was later identified by his sister as Amukelani Hlongwani of Mushiane village.

Police have since requested Joel Makhubele or anyone with information that can be of assistance in their investigation of the murder case to come forward.

The public is also urged to report any leads to investigating officer Captain Adam Hobyani at 082 414 6709.
