Khume Ramulifho, a member of the DA in the Gauteng legislature, has officially launched his campaign for the provincial chairperson position.
Ramulifho’s decision comes ahead of the upcoming provincial conference scheduled for August 12, where new party leadership will be elected.
A prominent contender challenging the current incumbent Solly Msimanga, Ramulifho has made a commitment to revitalise the party’s foundations, re-establish connections with its members and supporters, and reinforce DA’s dedication to core values and principles.
With a vision of a cohesive, prosperous, and inclusive South Africa, he aims to position the DA as the leading political party and a viable alternative to the ANC in the province.
Speaking at the launch in Melrose Arch in Johannesburg on Thursday, Ramulifho said: “I am running for the leadership of the DA in Gauteng because I believe in our vision of a united, prosperous and inclusive South Africa.
“I believe that we have the potential to be the strongest party and the best alternative to the ANC in the province. But to achieve that, we need rejuvenated determination to revive our structures, reconnect with our members and supporters, and renew our commitment to our values and principles.”
He outlined his motto, which underlines the importance of making meaningful contributions and striving for excellence, and indicated that his dedication to personal and professional growth is evident through his participation in international leadership development programmes including a sponsored opportunity by the French embassy.
“In this perspective, I firmly believe that true greatness is not defined by titles, or superficial attributes, but rather by the positive impact one has on others and to their community through their actions, choices, and achievements.
“It serves as a reminder to focus on personal growth, continuous improvement, and making a difference through my efforts, regardless of any preconceived notions or societal labels.
“My achievements and recognition in the field of politics reflect the significant impact and contribution I have made.
“I am proud to have been honoured by being named among Mail and Guardian’s prestigious list of the top 300 and top 200 most influential and successful young individuals in South Africa, specifically within the category of politics, in both 2009 and 2010.”
Ramulifho has demonstrated a strong commitment to personal and professional growth throughout his career.
Moreover, he has been actively involved in advocating for increased participation and representation of non-public representatives in DA congresses, recognising the significance of inclusivity and diverse perspectives within the party, and has dedicated himself to promoting these principles.
“Through my efforts, I successfully advocated for a significant amendment to the initial threshold of 2% non-public representatives, raising it to an impressive 45% representation at all federal congresses of the DA,” he said.
“This change reflects a profound commitment to ensuring that individuals from various backgrounds and sectors have a platform to contribute and be heard within the party.”
