The SACP is demanding that US ambassador to South Africa Reuben Brigety be frog-marched out of the country for his lies about the Lady R vessel.
The SACP believes that Brigety’s lies caused irreparable damage to the country’s standing in the global community.
Brigety shot to fame when he announced that the Lady R vessel that had docked in Simonstown in the Western Cape in December had loaded weapons bound for Russia.
According to Brigety, the weapons were to assist Russia in its conflict with Ukraine.
However, Brigety’s lies were exposed this week with the release of a report of the investigative panel appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The panel delved deeper on the saga following the sensational claims by Brigety.
It found that the rumour-mongering Brigety was spewing bile and had no evidence to back up his claims.
“Despite some rumours that some equipment or arms were loaded on the Lady R, the panel found no evidence to substantiate those claims,” reads the executive summary of the panel’s report.
“Available evidence only confirmed the offloading and that there was nothing loaded.”
The SACP said there should be consequences for Brigety’s lies and such should be no less than him expelled from the country.
According to the SACP, South Africa suffered immensely at an economic level because of the rumours given leg by Brigety.
Said SACP national spokesperson Dr Alex Mashilo: “The SACP reiterates its call for the imperialist United States ambassador to South Africa, Dr Reuben E. Brigety, to go.
“Dr Briget baselessly accused South Africa of supporting Russia’s special military operation with weapons in the war provoked by Nato [North Atlantic Treaty Organisation] in Ukraine.
“His spurious allegations against our country had a damaging effect on our currency, economy, and our standing in the world.
“Despite receiving an opportunity to present evidence to support his claims, Dr Brigety failed to do so.”
The SACP believes that Brigety’s lies were deliberate propaganda to destruct the world from the US’ own involvement in funding Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.
In the SACP’s view, the US has allegedly pumped billions of dollars to sponsor Ukraine directly through the supply of military hardware.
It also provided Ukraine with technical capacity and intelligence support, among other things.
“US military support for Ukraine has soared hand in hand with the imperialist powers of Western Europe, also pumping pounds and euros on Ukraine’s side.
“The imperialist powers have no interest in seeing an end to the war by peaceful diplomatic means.
“Dr Brigety’s baseless allegations and diplomatic misconduct occurred within this context when South Africa was preparing for the African Peace Mission to seek an end to the war by peaceful diplomatic means.”
