Award-winning economist, Mike Schüssler has passed away after a short battle with cancer.
Dawie Roodt, Mike’s friend said he received the message from his wife [Greta Moodie] on Tuesday morning that Mike has died.
He said Schussler had throat cancer and had a recent operation about two months ago.
“However, Schüssler’s health deteriorated which led to him being hospitalised again,” added Roodt.
Roodt said he believed that Schüssler would like to be remembered as a people’s economist.
He was popular for his insights on radio and other media, crunching financial data to inform ordinary people.
Tributes have since poured in for the economist.
I am so saddened to hear of Mike Schüssler’s passing. Mike’s love for economics helped shape policy discussions and direction for our nation.
He lives behind a great legacy, my prayers and thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. RIP Mike. pic.twitter.com/2N9IHSYgqL
