The popular Summit Grill and Skybar in the eastern suburbs of Pretoria has shut down after a fire damaged parts of the building.
spokesperson Charles Mabaso said the fire broke out in the early hours of Wednesday and emergency services were still on the scene putting out hot spots.
The three-story building with unbeatable views of the city, food, drinks and entertainment is situated in Menlyn just off the Garsfontein offramp on the N1 highway.
Mabaso confirmed that no patrons were harmed when the fire broke out because the establishment was closed.
“It was closed when the fire started and no patrons were affected. Only the second floor, where the sound is being played caught fire and sustained damages. The part of the restaurant on the ground floor, and the kitchen as well as the rooftop did not suffer any damage,” he said.
He said the cause of the fire is still unknown.
“Fire safety has been activated to conduct fire cause determination,” Mabaso added.
The management of the eatery and bar has since issued a statement confirming the incident and further informed clients that it will be closed.
“Dear valued customers, please note that we have experienced a fire at our store. Summit will be closed until further notice. We thank you all for understanding,” the statement read.
The upmarket venue was established in September 2017 by founder and owner Stelio Tsihlas.
Known for the best grilled steaks, the restaurant is open seven days for a seven breakfast, lunch and dinner trade.
Meanwhile, more than 40 chalets went up in flames at Canabas Hotel in SunCity, North West at the weekend.
According to Sun City general manager Brett Hoppe, a fire broke out in the Cabanas Hotel kitchen at about 2.30pm on Saturday afternoon.
“No one was injured in the Cabanas fire, and guest accommodation was unaffected,” said Hoppe.
