Nolwazi Shange, a casting director and former actress from etv’s Scandal!, made an appearance at the Brixton magistrate’s court on Friday.
This occurred after a case of theft was lodged against her by the production team of Queen Modjadji, a television show about a traditional rain queen of the Balobedu people from Limpopo.
In 2024, allegations arose that Shange stole R700 000 from the production set of the popular Mzansi Magic show.
Manipulation of invoices
Shange is suspected of manipulating invoices from agencies that provided extras while working as a casting manager for the production company Rhythm World in October 2024.
According to the allegations, she changed banking information and amounts, rerouting the money to an unidentified business that was purportedly connected to her, and failing to pay the agencies.
In March 2025, Shange appeared at the Johannesburg magistrate’s court after Rhythm World filed a fraud case following an internal investigation.
The case was moved to the Brixton magistrate’s court, where she appeared on Friday on charges of fraud and cybercrime.
Following a brief appearance at the Brixton magistrate’s court on Friday, the case was postponed to September 26 to allow for further investigations.
Shange is out on R5 000 bail, which was granted during her court appearance in March.
Ex-lovers break vows
The media has since reported that the former Scandal! actress and her husband, Mzwandile Ngubeni, whom she had been married to for 13 years, got divorced in March 2024.
The ex-lovers, who first met on set in 2010, have called their relationship “beautiful” and “love at first sight” for Ngubeni in earlier interviews.
They were married in 2016 after dating for six years.
Shange and Ngubeni exchanged vows during a stunning traditional wedding that took place in Durban.
Ngubeni said at the time that he knew that Shange was the one and that their union felt natural.
Attendees at their traditional wedding included Khaya Mthethwa, Jessica Nkosi, Samkelo Ndlovu, the late Akhumzi Jezile, and many others.
Although they have not officially announced their split, the ex-lovers have since moved on with their lives. Ngubeni, however, has been posting images of his new partner.
