Residents advised to store water ahead of 40-hour water outage

Johannesburg Water has encouraged its customers to store water ahead of a planned shutdown by Rand Water from Tuesday to Thursday next week.

The shutdown will enable Rand Water to install isolation valves and upgrade systems at its Eikenhof pump station.

In a statement, Johannesburg Water appealed to residents in different areas to store water 48 hours before the shutdown starts “to sustain capacity within the impacted infrastructure”.

“During the shutdown, Johannesburg Water infrastructure supplied by Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station will be affected by no water supply, as well as areas receiving direct water supply from Rand Water,” said the water utility.

“It is estimated that full recovery of the systems may take approximately five days or longer after the supply has been fully restored.”

Alternative water supply will be arranged for clinics, hospitals, schools, police stations, shopping centres and municipal offices.

The outage will start at 7pm next Tuesday and end at 3pm two days later. The following areas across the metro will be impacted:
