Richards Bay star midfielder collapses and dies in training

Richards Bay has confirmed that Siphamandla Mtolo passed away during a morning training session on Tuesday.

In a statement, the KwaZulu-Natal-based football team said the 29-year-old star midfielder collapsed and died.

The club pleaded for privacy as it tries to come to terms with the sudden death of Mtolo.

Spepe, as Mtolo was affectionally known, featured for his club when they faced Kaizer Chiefs at the weekend, a DStv Premiership encounter they narrowly lost 1-0.

Mtolo was key for his side gaining promotion to top-flight football last season, captaining the side to clinching the Glad Africa Championship, now Motsepe Foundation Championship.

He passed away having only made eight appearances in DStv Premiership, after battling with a long-term injury.
