SA bridges a ticking time bomb

There is more danger awaiting South Africa as many bridges across the country are a ticking bomb ready to explode and cause more harm.

On Christmas eve, the country was shaken when an Infinite Group truck transporting liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) got stuck under the bridge in Boksburg near the OR Tambo Memorial hospital, and exploded.

The explosion caused 38 deaths, including medical staff. More people were injured, including fire fighters and medical personnel, among others.

During the explosion, there were claims that the bridge did not meet specifications, with no signage detailing the bridge height to enable trucks to pass though it without any hinderance.
