Sam Motsuenyane’s wife Jocelyn dies a day after burying husband

The wife of the late veteran entrepreneur Dr Sam Motsuenyane, Nomgcibelo Jocelyn Motsuenyane, has passed away. This was announced by the Dr Sam Motsuenyane Foundation on Friday.

The foundation’s spokesperson, Ntlotleng Manale, said Jocelyn died in the early hours of Friday morning. The retired school teacher was 92.

Manale said Jocelyn was “unwell” on Thursday night.

Died on the way to hospital

She said Jocelyn was rushed to the hospital on Friday morning but died on her way there.

She died just a day after her husband, Motsuenyane, the founding chairman of African Bank, was laid to rest in Pretoria.

The couple was married for 70 years.

Motsuenyane died on April 29, aged 97. He was the longest serving president of the National Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Nafcoc). The pioneering businessman was at the helm for 24 years. Family, friends, and colleagues attended the funeral service in Pretoria on Thursday to bid the business stalwart farewell.

Former President Thabo Mbeki also attended and spoke at Motsuenyane’s funeral on Thursday.

“It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mme Nomgcibelo Jocelyn Motsuenyane, beloved wife of the late Dr Sam Motsuenyane. Mme Motsuenyane departed from this world in the early hours of May 10, 2024. A mere hours after bidding farewell to her husband of 70 years.

End of an era

“Her departure marks the end of an era, as the Motsuenyane family mourns the loss of two pillars whose contributions to our community and nation are immeasurable,” said Manale.

Manale said Jocelyn’s funeral service will be next week Wednesday in Akasia, Pretoria.

Funeral next week

“In honouring Koko’s life and legacy, a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, commencing at 7am at Akasia Community Hall. Following the service, she will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband at Zandfontein Cemetery.

“During this time of bereavement, we extend our deepest condolences to the Motsuenyane family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by her kindness, wisdom, and grace. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her memory continue to inspire us all,” said Manale.
